I’m a member of The Psychopomp Collective, a network of healing practitioners trained by Shannon Willis, founder of Red Earth Healing. Disincarnate beings are the focus of our healing work. These beings include the human dead, the other-than-human dead, and those who have never had bodies.

Common language for this sort of work includes depossession, soul retrieval, curse unraveling, and elevation/transitioning.

In my experience, what it mostly looks like is showing up in non-ordinary reality, a place you’ve visited yourself in dreams or guided meditations, and holding space for the compassionate forces of creation to do their good work.

It helps to have a human eye turned toward this process because there are supposed to be human eyes turned toward these processes—we embodied folks don’t exist separately from the disincarnate. I imagine the seen and unseen realms as one big hometown whose various neighborhoods have been struck hard by gentrification over the millennia. So much has been lost. Psychopomp work is about spiritual repair.
